The Witnesses Book Review:

Young lawyer Parker House is on the rise—until his grandfather’s mysterious past puts both of their lives in danger. Parker House’s secret inheritance is either his greatest blessing . . . or his deadliest curse. The fresh-faced North Carolina attorney shares his German grandfather’s uncanny ability to see future events in his mind’s eye—a gift that has haunted 82-year-old Frank House through decades of trying to erase a murderous wartime past. While Parker navigates the intrigue and politics of small-town courtroom law, Frank is forced to face his darkest regrets. Then, a big career break for Parker collides with a new love he longs to nurture and the nightmares his grandfather can no longer escape. Sudden peril threatens to shatter not only Parker’s legal prospects but also his life and the lives of those dearest to him. Two witnesses, two paths, an uncertain future.

The Witnesses Book Review:

In recent years, the world community has demonstrated a renewed commitment to the pursuit of international criminal justice. In 1993, the United Nations established two ad hoc international tribunals to try those responsible for genocide and crimes against humanity in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Ten years later, the International Criminal Court began its operations and is developing prosecutions in its first two cases (Congo and Uganda). Meanwhile, national and hybrid war crimes tribunals have been established in Sierra Leone, Kosovo, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, East Timor, Indonesia, Iraq, and Cambodia. Thousands of people have given testimony before these courts. Most have witnessed war crimes, including mass killings, torture, rape, inhumane imprisonment, forced expulsion, and the destruction of homes and villages. For many, testifying in a war crimes trial requires great courage, especially as they are well aware that war criminals still walk the streets of their villages and towns. Yet despite these risks, little attention has been paid to the fate of witnesses of mass atrocity. Nor do we know much about their experiences testifying before an international tribunal or the effect of such testimony on their return to their postwar communities. The first study of victims and witnesses who have testified before an international war crimes tribunal, The Witnesses examines the opinions and attitudes of eighty-seven individuals—Bosnians, Muslims, Serbs, and Croats—who have appeared before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

The Witnesses Book Review:

Who is responsible for setting the barn fires that continue to keep the Amish of eastern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on edge? Who is responsible for seeing that they are stopped? In this third and final novel in the Lancaster Burning series, author Linda Byler takes us inside the home of Davey Beiler, the leader of this Amish district. He clearly feels the heat in more ways than one. Some of the younger members of his church are ready to testify against the man who has allegedly started at least several of the fires. Davey counsels patience and forgiveness. But when Sarah, Davey’s daughter, spots flames late one night in the widow Lydia’s barn, Sarah refuses to let the fire win. She gets the horses out just in time, but not before a beam explodes overhead, knocking her to the ground as the barn rages in flames all around her. In that moment, Sarah’s life “turned darker than black.” Gone were her lovely good looks, her life as a teacher, and perhaps the attention of the two young men who had been so drawn to her. No one suffers more torment than Davey, who wonders if he was really responsible for Sarah's accident. If he had agreed to have police guard the Amish farms, as some wanted, Sarah would not have been hurt. The Amish may be peace-loving, but they are not without their tensions. Author Byler, who is herself a member of the Amish, writes a tautly told story, full of dark fears, difficult dilemmas, and deep love. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade, Yucca, and Good Books imprints, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction—novels, novellas, political and medical thrillers, comedy, satire, historical fiction, romance, erotic and love stories, mystery, classic literature, folklore and mythology, literary classics including Shakespeare, Dumas, Wilde, Cather, and much more. Winning the Witnesses Book Review:

Proven step-by-step methods that will help you bring Jehovah’s Witnesses to Christ. While serving as an Associate Pastor in 1996, Daniel Rodriguez was instrumental in targeting his city’s large Jehovah’s Witness population. Construction of a Kingdom Hall was stopped because the strategies in this book either won Witnesses to Christ or destroyed their faith in the Watchtower Society. The step-by-step plan in this practical, easy-reading book will help you to reach Jehovah’s Witnesses like you never thought possible. Discover: Why Jehovah’s Witnesses won’t listen when you quote your Bible. How to get them to actually hear and receive your words. How you can get them to doubt their leaders. Tactics they use to get Christians sidetracked. You Will Also Learn: The logic that is such an effective tool to reach them. How to persuade honest Witnesses to reject the authority of the Watchtower Society. How Watchtower publications contradict themselves, the Bible, and their religion. Why the first thing you must do is destroy their faith in the Watchtower, and how to do it. If you want to be more successful at sharing the gospel with Jehovah’s Witnesses, here’s help.

The Witnesses Book Review:

This book is the fourth in the 20/20 Vision series. These books are a continuous story about a group of people left behind after the church has been raptured and taken from the earth to heaven. This ongoing story of how God meets with those left behind and reveals himself to them as a loving father and then protects and provides for them is catching the imagination of those who have read the series. Helen receives e-mails from those who have become followers of the books, asking when the next one is due to be released in addition to offering advice on further possible scenarios and relationship developments! This book is different from the previous three in that it is almost entirely based in Israel, giving a picture of life in the Holy Land, frequently only seen in travel guides and by those, who like Helen, have lived there. As a result, this book also stands alone, though reading it as part of the series is more edifying. Watch out for volume 5 due out later this year.

The Acts of the Witnesses Book Review:

This book presents writings produced by the Muggletonians---an unusual seventeenth-century English sect founded in 1652 by John Reeve and Lodowick Muggleton. The volume draws on documents from a recently discovered Muggleton archive and rare seventeenth-century tracts. Among those included are Muggleton's autobiography, excerpts from works co-written by Muggleton and Reeve, letters, songs (including ones composed to celebrate Muggleton's release from prison), and miscellany.

And the Witnesses Were Silent Book Review:

An endlessly perplexing question of the twentieth century is how ?decent? people came to allow, and sometimes even participate in, the Final Solution. Fear obviously had its place, as did apathy. But how does one explain the silence of those people who were committed, active, and often fearless opponents of the Nazi regime on other grounds?those who spoke out against Nazi activities in many areas yet whose response to genocide ranged from tepid disquiet to avoidance? One such group was the Confessing Church, Protestants who often risked their own safety to aid Christian victims of Nazi oppression but whose response to pogroms against Jews was ambivalent.

Four Letters to the Witnesses of My Childhood Book Review:

The evocation of memory is wrought with emotional and historical significance in this distinctive holocaust memoir. With lyrical prose and remarkable candor, Helena Ganor narrates her story through a series of recently penned letters to the significant people in her life during her wartime girlhood: her sister, mother, father, and stepmother. Both Ganor’s mother and sister perished during the war. The author’s letters reveal much about living in pre-war Lvov, Poland. Her descriptions of relationships between local Jews, Poles, Ukrainians, and Gypsies in Lvov lend a broad historical context to the Holocaust. Ganor combines deeply personal reminiscences of trying to survive as a secular Jew under Nazi occupation with reflections on the varied ways that humans respond in the face of utter catastrophe. Punctuating her letters with poems, Ganor’s story is an inspiring contribution to Holocaust literature.

The Resurrection of Nat Turner, Part 1: The Witnesses Book Review:

The truth has been buried more than one hundred years . . . Leading a small army of slaves, Nat Turner was a man born with a mission: to set the captives free. When words failed, he ignited an uprising that left over fifty whites dead. In the predawn hours of August 22, 1831, Nat Turner stormed into history with a Bible in one hand, brandishing a sword in the other. His rebellion shined a national spotlight on slavery and the state of Virginia and divided a nation’s trust. Turner himself became a lightning rod for abolitionists like Harriet Beecher Stowe and a terror and secret shame for slave owners. In The Resurrection of Nat Turner, Part 1: The Witnesses, Nat Turner’s story is revealed through the eyes and minds of slaves and masters, friends and foes. In their words is the truth of the mystery and conspiracy of Nat Turner’s life, death, and confession. The Resurrection of Nat Turner spans more than sixty years, sweeping from the majestic highlands of Ethiopia to the towns of Cross Keys and Jerusalem in Southampton County. Using extensive research, Sharon Ewell Foster breaks hallowed ground in this epic novel, revealing long-buried secrets about this tragic hero.
