The Inheritance Game is an amusing and often outrageous novel that follows the story of Dean Williams, who thinks all his dreams have come true when he unexpectedly inherits a £2 million house from a recently-deceased friend, Dougie. However the catch is that the terms of the inheritance state Dean must move into the house with seven of his friends and successfully complete ten challenges that have been set by his late friend before ownership is transferred to him. One challenge is released per week by the deceased's solicitor and it quickly becomes evident that Dougie had a sick sense of humour as majority of the challenges require Dean and his friends to do things that most people would need to be paid to do. As the weeks progress the challenges become more extreme and outrageous and test not only the principles and morals of the group but also how far Dean is prepared to go in order to get his hands on the money. Alongside the weekly challenges are a myriad of other storylines revolving around the exploits of the eight guys living in the house. These storylines are humorous and frequently outrageous but have elements familiar to anyone who has ever drunk too much and done something they later regretted. The Inheritance Game follows the friendship, relationships and sex lives of a group of eight guys in their mid twenties and aims to cater for the twenty and thirty-something market in the same way as Bridget Jones, but with more of a focus on the male perspective. The central inheritance storyline is laced with intriguing moral dilemmas which make for compelling reading and are designed to make the reader question what they would do in a similar situation. Alongside the central plot are a variety of other storylines which are often outrageous and will make the reader laugh / cringe at the characters' antics. Each chapter represents a different day and as a result they are deliberately designed to be relatively short and self contained.

Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Man Booker Prize: An “extraordinary” novel “lit by a moral intelligence at once fierce and tender” (The New York Times Book Review). In a crumbling, isolated house at the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga in the Himalayas, an embittered old judge wants only to retire in peace. But his life is upended when his sixteen-year-old orphaned granddaughter, Sai, arrives on his doorstep. The judge’s chatty cook watches over the girl, but his thoughts are mostly with his son, Biju, hopscotching from one miserable New York restaurant job to another, trying to stay a step ahead of the INS. When a Nepalese insurgency threatens Sai’s new-sprung romance with her tutor, the household descends into chaos. The cook witnesses India’s hierarchy being overturned and discarded. The judge revisits his past and his role in Sai and Biju’s intertwining lives. In a grasping world of colliding interests and conflicting desires, every moment holds out the possibility for hope or betrayal. Published to extraordinary acclaim, The Inheritance of Loss heralds Kiran Desai as one of our most insightful novelists. She illuminates the pain of exile and the ambiguities of postcolonialism with a tapestry of colorful characters and “uncannily beautiful” prose (O: The Oprah Magazine). “A book about tradition and modernity, the past and the future—and about the surprising ways both amusing and sorrowful, in which they all connect.” —The Independent

I Asked the Wind is a journey into romance, love and loss through poetry. Beautiful and powerful in its lyrical and simple verse, you will find yourself immersed in a world of sensuality, passion, desire, and innocence; all woven together into a tapestry of human emotion.Drawing on natural elements such as the sun, sand, wind and moon, this collection explores the light and darkness of romantic love. From the exhilaration of love first discovered to the crushing pain of love lost, each poem evokes the intensity of the experience. Universal in its appeal, it raises the question, "Was this love real at all?""There are those who think of me as a 'tough' guy but those who know me, know I love the things in life that provide the simple yet purest joys. Romance and poetry fall into that category and Valerie's poems not only are magnificent to read but they stick with you. You will find yourself thinking about them and about her and the love and passion that fueled her fires to create such magical works. This is a collection for the romantic in you, for you to share with your lover and for everyone who wants to have their breath taken away." -- Robert Robinson, Executive Producer, The Dinner Salon.

"I'm not saying this is Sawyer's fault," the prim and proper one said delicately. "But." Eighteen-year-old auto mechanic Sawyer Taft did not expect her estranged grandmother to show up at her apartment door and offer her a six-figure contract to participate in debutante season. And she definitely never imagined she would accept. But when she realizes that immersing herself in her grandmother's "society" might mean discovering the answer to the biggest mystery of her life-her father's identity-she signs on the dotted line and braces herself for a year of makeovers, big dresses, bigger egos, and a whole lot of bless your heart. The one thing she doesn't expect to find is friendship, but as she's drawn into a group of debutantes with scandalous, dangerous secrets of their own, Sawyer quickly discovers that her family isn't the only mainstay of high society with skeletons in their closet. There are people in her grandmother's glittering world who are not what they appear, and no one wants Sawyer poking her nose into the past. As she navigates the twisted relationships between her new friends and their powerful parents, Sawyer's search for the truth about her own origins is just the beginning. Set in the world of debutante balls, grand estates and rolling green hills, Little White Lies combines a charming setting, a classic fish-out-of-water story, and the sort of layered mystery only author Jennifer Lynn Barnes can pull off.

An Instant NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A LOS ANGELES TIMES, BOSTON GLOBE, WALL STREET JOURNAL, and NATIONAL INDIE BESTSELLER Named A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR by *Elle * Real Simple * Kirkus Reviews * BookPage * "Memoir gold: a profound and exquisitely rendered exploration of identity and the true meaning of family." --People Magazine "Beautifully written and deeply moving--it brought me to tears more than once."--Ruth Franklin, The New York Times Book Review From the acclaimed, best-selling memoirist, novelist and host of the hit podcast Family Secrets, comes a memoir about the staggering family secret uncovered by a genealogy test: an exploration of the urgent ethical questions surrounding fertility treatments and DNA testing, and a profound inquiry of paternity, identity, and love. In the spring of 2016, through a genealogy website to which she had casually submitted her DNA for analysis, Dani Shapiro received the stunning news that her beloved deceased father was not her biological father. Over the course of a single day, her entire history--the life she had lived--crumbled beneath her. Inheritance is a book about secrets. It is the story of a woman's urgent quest to unlock the story of her own identity, a story that had been scrupulously hidden from her for more than fifty years. It is a book about the extraordinary moment we live in, a moment in which science and technology have outpaced not only medical ethics but also the capacities of the human heart to contend with the consequences of what we discover. Dani Shapiro's memoir unfolds at a breakneck pace--part mystery, part real-time investigation, part rumination on the ineffable combination of memory, history, biology, and experience that makes us who we are. Inheritance is a devastating and haunting interrogation of the meaning of kinship and identity, written with stunning intensity and precision.
