The Chain Book Review:

When a mother is targeted by a dangerous group of masterminds, she must commit a crime to save her kidnapped daughter -- or risk losing her forever -- in this "propulsive and original" thriller (Stephen King). It's something parents do every morning: Rachel Klein drops her daughter at the bus stop and heads into her day. But a cell phone call from an unknown number changes everything: it's a woman on the line, informing her that she has Kylie bound and gagged in her back seat, and the only way Rachel will see her again is to follow her instructions exactly: pay a ransom, and find another child to abduct. This is no ordinary kidnapping: the caller is a mother herself, whose son has been taken, and if Rachel doesn't do as she's told, the boy will die. "You are not the first. And you will certainly not be the last." Rachel is now part of The Chain, an unending and ingenious scheme that turns victims into criminals -- and is making someone else very rich in the process. The rules are simple, the moral challenges impossible; find the money fast, find your victim , and then commit a horrible act you'd have thought yourself incapable of just twenty-four hours ago. But what the masterminds behind The Chain know is that parents will do anything for their children. It turns out that kidnapping is only the beginning. "McKinty is one of the most striking and most memorable crime voices to emerge on the scene in years. His plots tempt you to read at top speed, but don't give in: this writing -- sharply observant, intelligent and shot through with black humor -- should be savored."-- Tana French "A masterpiece. You have never read anything quite like The Chain and you will never be able to forget it." -- Don Winslow "Diabolical, unnerving, and gives a whole new meaning to the word "relentless". Adrian McKinty just leapt to the top of my list of must-read suspense novelists. He's the real deal."-- Dennis Lehane "Pairing an irresistible concept with a winner protagonist, The Chain promises to be your new addiction once you succumb to the first enticing page."-- Alafair Burke "A grade-A-first-rate-edge-of-your-seat thriller. I can't believe what went through my mind while reading it." -- Attica Locke

The Chain Gang Book Review:

Startling case histories of the dubious tactics practiced by Gannett, unsparing insights into the newspaper industry, and harsh conclusions all come together in the dramatic story of these two men's efforts to save the small Green Bay daily from being obliterated at the hands of the nation's largest newspaper chain. Their success is a metaphor for one of the oldest triumphs of the world: that of David over Goliath.

Restoring the Chain of Friendship Book Review:

During the American Revolution the British enjoyed a unified alliance with their Native allies in the Great Lakes region of North America. By the War of 1812, however, that ?chain of friendship? had devolved into smaller, more local alliances. To understand how and why this pivotal shift occurred, Restoring the Chain of Friendship examines British and Native relations in the Great Lakes region between the end of the American Revolution and the end of the War of 1812. ø Timothy D. Willig traces the developments in British-Native interaction and diplomacy in three regions: those served by the agencies of Fort St. Joseph, Fort Amherstburg, and Fort George. During the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the Native peoples in each area developed unique relationships with the British. Relations in these regions were affected by such factors as the local success of the fur trade, Native relations with the United States, geography, the influence of British-Indian agents, intertribal relations, Native acculturation or cultural revitalization, and constitutional issues of Native sovereignty and legal statuses. Assessing the wide variety of factors that influenced relations in each of these areas, Willig determines that it was nearly impossible for Britain to establish a single Indian policy for its North American borderlands, and it was thus forced to adapt to conditions and circumstances particular to each region.

The Chain Book Review:

Should wisdom be judged by the answers we give to life's greatest questions? Or conversely, should wisdom be judged by the profundity of our questions? In The Chain, author Samir Morcos inspires us to begin our search for insight by first acknowledging our ignorance. He then guides us through the philosophical and theological maze he refers to as a puzzle. One piece of the puzzle may trigger us to question how our bodily form came into existence. Another piece may activate our curiosity about the ebb and flow of the ocean's tides. Everywhere we look, from the color of our eyes to the people in our lives, we see questions, and we are propelled by our inner longing to seek satisfying answers. The Chain reveals startling revelations about age-old reflections. It takes its readers on the journey of their lives-and beyond Life challenges inspired author Samir Edward Morcos to become intensely interested in some tough topics, like guilt, evil, and truth. His drive to unravel the uncertainty of the universe, and to share what he has learned, impelled him to write The Chain. While he lives in the real world, he is inspired by the ethereal. The Chain will clear your confusion through logic, wisdom, and knowledge. Morcos was born in Cairo, Egypt, and now lives in Fairfax, Virginia. Publisher's website: http: //www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/TheChain.htm

The Chain Book Review:

For centuries, man has sought to see the future. For Billy Garrett and his friends, knowing the future is a curse. "Which one of you boys is William Garrett?" "What do you want," I said, breaking every safety rule that my mother ever taught me. "My name is Mr. Gold. I want to talk to you about what you see." He spoke in a whisper. "You see things, don't you? Special things." His eyes, hot yellow coals filled with hatred, bored into mine. "I know what you did," he said. "I know you altered events. You broke the Chain." I began to shake. "Do not disrupt the Chain again," Mr. Gold said, moving closer. "Or you will be punished." To save the world, four young boys will fight to change destiny. To stop an ancient evil, they must learn to break The Chain.

Breaking the Chain Book Review:

In 2009 Allyson Reedy broke the chain. She stopped eating meals, snacks and goodies from the chain restaurants that line America’s streets and dominate our stomachs. Her food memoir, Breaking the Chain: How I Banned Chain Restaurants From My Diet And Went From Full To Fulfilled, chronicles her year-long experience as she sought out local alternatives to the food we’ve come to rely upon. Breaking the Chain is Fast Food Nation (Eric Schlosser) told from Carrie Bradshaw’s point of view (if she loved manicotti as much as Manolos). It’s about passing up ritual office breakfasts of bagels and donuts. It means having awkward conversations and waiting longer for food. It involves breaking social customs and inconveniencing friends. It necessitates supporting your neighbors and local community. It also means discovering new favorite foods, saving money and (for Allyson) losing weight. Breaking the Chain began with Allyson wanting to eat better tasting, more adventurous food. After watching friends, family and strangers eat unsatisfactory meal after meal at chain restaurants and get fatter as a result, she wondered how we could break this chain of mediocrity, obesity and commercialism. By giving up corporate-controlled meals, she figured she could achieve her goal of eating the most delicious possible food and maybe even learn something about her eating habits along the way. The experiment turned into so much more than tasty food. Somehow, eating guilt-free turned into the world’s easiest weight loss method. During the worst economic downturn of our lifetime, it became a means of keeping community restaurants in business – and neighbors employed. It’s possible Allyson reduced her carbon footprint by half a step and increased her life by a few years. She unwittingly became social commentary and got in a battle with The Man. In other words, it got interesting.

The Chain Letter Book Review:

Livvie isn’t superstitious like her best friend, Joyce, who thinks everything is bad luck. So Livvie isn’t worried about tearing up the chain letter and throwing it away–until she’s humiliated in gym class, falls down her back stairs, and gets invited to Thanksgiving dinner at Peter Finch’s house. Peter’s dad has crooked teeth, a plastic wonderland in his front yard, and some kind of secret up in his study. There is no way Livvie wants Phil Finch to date her mom. But it’s hard work keeping their families apart–especially when Livvie is assigned to work on the sixth-grade snow maze project with Peter. Clearly, Joyce was right: breaking the chain was a huge mistake. And the only way to set things straight is to find out who sent the letter in the first place. . . . Rich in humor and suspense, Julie Schumacher’s absorbing novel is about friendship, choices, and the kind of luck that really matters.

Breaking the Chain Book Review:

To outsiders, Larry Owen Azlin was a drug-addicted criminal who defied societal rules and norms. But to authors Shirley Anne McMurray and Melinda Leigh Alkire, he was the man they called Daddy. In this memoir, these sisters paint a picture of their life with their father and mother a life marked by crime, drugs, police busts, and shootings in the ghettos of Fresno, California. Breaking the Chain provides a glimpse into the life of children with parents who struggle with addiction and the impact the criminal justice system leaves on them. McMurray and Alkire share the details of what life was like with their father before drugs engulfed his mind, body, and soul. It also narrates the grim stories of his drug-addicted machinations, his prison incarceration with the California Department of Corrections, and his failed attempts at reform. Recalling both the heartaches and the joys, Breaking the Chain provides a unique perspective of their unusual upbringing. They provide testimony that there is hope for the future.

Breaking The Chain Book Review:

When Phoebe married Duncan Moon, she imagined they would get around to loving one another. But she hadn't bargained on the stifling effect on her husband of his alarming family, nor the many ways in which the family would contrive to exclude her from their affluent but hollow lives. It is only when Phoebe reads the hidden diaries of her father-in-law's ex-mistress that she learns the truth about the Moons - and discovers love where she had never thought she'd find it. In this wickedly funny first novel, first published in 1995, Maggie Makepeace paints a devastating portrait of upper middle-class family life. By turns hilarious, painful, tragic and unexpectedly poignant, this is black comedy at it startling best.
