Reclaiming My Dreams Book Review:

A woman yearns for self-assurance to be a woman of dreams, of song and poetry. The feel of life, buried by over socialisation and domestication processes, oppressed by the surrounding culture and dealing with a problem without a name, is lifted in the process of dreaming, singing songs and reciting poetry. That is the woman Wanjira becomes when she narrates stories. She reclaims her dreams through her stories. She reclaims her wellness, hope, independence and strength. You see the sparkle in her eyes when she talks abut dances, courtship, beauty, children, love, courage, determination, joy, and womanhood. Reclaiming My Dreams: Stories by Wanjira wa Rukenya is thus, an individual artist's work. It goes a long way in helping students appreciate the narrative genre and understand the creative role of individual artists. This understanding demystifies the idea that anybody and everybody in the African society is a storyteller; an assertion that has belittled the artistry of African Oral Literature. The book makes us appreciate our cultural heritage. Students of literature in Secondary Schools and in higher institutions of learning will find this book useful.

Reclaiming His Wife Book Review:

I’m an a**hole. Ask anyone. My staff, the press, my ex-wife. They’d also tell you I’m a playboy, but they’d be wrong about that. I’m so much worse. Humiliating women, hurting them. That’s what gets me off, even though it makes me sick with shame afterward. I broke up my marriage to the only woman I’ve ever loved because she deserved so much better than all the filthy things I wanted to say and do to her. But it turns out when I get access to a world where I can get what I want without drowning in guilt when it’s over, I find my wife already there. Not only do I get schooled in the fact that it’s not what I want that’s bad, only how I’ve been going about getting it, but I also get a second shot with the love of my life. I’d do anything to get Pressly back; I’m just not sure anything I can offer will ever be enough.

Reclaiming the Land Book Review:

It doesn’t take the most spiritually discerning person among us to see that we stand in desperate need of revival within our land. We see churches in drastic decline, leading to moral decay and opening wide the door for the devourer to enter in and destroy our families and community. The sole purpose of this book is to see the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ rise to its full potential, call by seeking the face of God, and see this land reclaimed in the name and for the glory of Jesus Christ. In Reclaiming the Land, Pastor Rusty Kuhn has clearly outlined God’s formula for revival that God has given in II Chronicles 7:14. Reclaiming the Land unfolds the biblical principle that if you plan and promote your agenda, bestowing glory and honor upon yourself rather than Jesus, the hand of God’s blessings will not fall. However, as demonstrated in this book through the principles of God’s Word, if we choose to pursue God’s way for His glory, His promise will be kept: “Then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” In Reclaiming the Land you will discover the prayer that God heard; the signs of the need of revival; the knowledge that we are saved with a holy calling; the need of humility for His honor; the power of prayer; the blessings of seeking His face; the need of honoring his presence; and the end result of doing things God’s way.

Reclaiming the Fire Book Review:

The definitive work on avoiding burnout, written by the psychologist who is the leading specialist on the issue. An illuminating and useful book for anyone coping with the pressures of work. In Reclaiming the Fire, Dr. Steven Berglas analyzes the rises and falls of corporate executives, middle managers, lawyers, entrepreneurs, and others as they struggle to handle the trappings of successful careers. How does one deal with encore anxiety, the monotony of having to use talents that are no longer psychologically rewarding? Why is it that our national obsession with wealth traps people in careers that often lead them to wonder, "Is that all there is?" And why do highly successful people often set themselves up for disastrous falls? Dr. Berglas answers all these questions and many more in this groundbreaking book by discussing real people whose careers have left them feeling pressured, burdened, and jaded. In his most progressive and striking contribution to the literature on career success, Dr. Berglas debunks the persistent myth that women suffer more stress and burnout than men. He disproves the common claim that women involved both in careers and in family life suffer from trying to have it all, and he demonstrates how the drive to form close interpersonal ties a drive that is intrinsic to women can actually prevent both men and women from experiencing burnout. In a related analysis of the mentoring process, Dr. Berglas shows why it is more important for careerists to build legacies for future generations (a process he terms generativity) than to become obsessed with their own personal success. He proves that the process not only benefits the student but provides the mentor with psychological satisfaction and even improved physical health. Reclaiming the Fire uses the working world not the psychiatric couch as a venue for understanding the psychological and emotional burdens of success. It is the first comprehensive account of how to balance self-esteem and ambition while maintaining challenge and stimulation throughout your career. Reclaiming the Fire provides insight into: *Why baby boomers are currently suffering an epidemic of career dissatisfaction *Why women are uniquely suited to cope with the pressures that cause men to suffer burnout, and what men can learn from them *How to escape golden handcuffs: the workaholic devotion to a job that is no longer emotionally satisfying *How to cope with anger that threatens to sabotage your career *How all professionals can identify the passions that will allow them to sustain and enjoy success throughout their lives

Reclaiming Inner Being Book Review:

What does it mean for an individual to truly be, to truly do, and to truly live? What is the relation between true being, doing, and living? These are among the most fundamental questions pondered by man. We may be told that we become what we do in life. The simplicity and apparent clarity of this sentiment make it appealing. But what if the currents of the streams of being and doing run in conflict rather than in tandem? And how much does necessity interfere with ones search for being? In light of many of todays problems and questions, it is evident that no simple formula will serve as a complete solution. If one cannot go as far as discovering true being just yet, one can approach nearer to an answer by investigating the concept of becoming, the origins of being. The four essays of this work explore the nature of the problem of individual being, the unique obstacles to its realization, the phenomenon of self-priming and cultural creation, and the related challenges with which we are faced today.

Reclaiming My Life from Broken Promises Book Review:

These poems are about my life experience. They are a glimpse into my journey of reclaiming my life. I began writing poetry as a way of releasing stress, loneliness, and sadness. When I moved to Calgary I had no one to talked to. I felt very alone and out of place, and I had no idea what I was going to do with myself. All of my friends were in Montreal, along with everything I had ever owned. I only had five hundred dollars in my wallet, and two suitcases full of toys, clothes, and important documents."

Reclaiming Truth Book Review:

Truth, Christopher Norris reminds us, is very much out of fashion at the moment whether at the hands of politicians, media pundits, or purveyors of postmodern wisdom in cultural and literary studies. Across a range of disciplines the idea has taken hold that truth-talk is either redundant or the product of epistemic might. Questions of truth and falsehood are always internal to some specific language-game; history is just another kind of fiction; philosophy is only a kind of writing; law is a wholly rhetorical practice. In Reclaiming Truth, Norris critiques these fashionable trends of thought and mounts a specific challenge to cultural relativist doctrines in epistemology, philosophy of science, ethics, and political theory. Norris presents his case in a series of closely argued chapters that take issue with the relativist position. He attempts to rehabilitate the value of truth in philosophy of science by restoring a lost distinction between concept and metaphor and argues that theoretical discourse, so far from being an inconsequential activity, has very real consequences, particularly in ethics and politics. This debate has become skewed, he suggests, through the widespread and typically postmodern idea that truth-claims must always go along with a presumptive or authoritarian bid to silence opposing views. On the contrary, there is nothing as dogmatic--or as silencing--as a relativism that acknowledges no shared truth conditions for valid or responsible discourse. Norris also offers a timely reassessment of several thinkers--Althusser and Derrida among them--whose reception history has been distorted by the vagaries of short-term intellectual fashion. Reclaiming Truth will be welcomed by readers concerned with the uses and abuses of theory at a time when such questions are in urgent need of sustained and serious debate.
