The Book of Kane and Margaret Book Review:

"More like a tapestry than a traditional novel, The Book of Kane and Margaret by Kiik Araki-Kawaguchi blends magical elements with stories based on the oral narratives of the author's grandparents and their experiences during the 1940s at the Tulare Assembly Center and the Gila River War Relocation Center, two WWII relocation camps in Arizona. The author's technique gives the novel the effect of working through accretion, collecting one-breath fictions and conversations with recurring names, voices, and themes that explore a carceral setting"--

Gods in Darkness Book Review:

Kane An immortal, cursed to wander the Earth until he is destroyed by the violence that he himself has created. A warrior and statesman: As comfortable in the shadowy halls of courtly intrigue as he is on the bloody battlefields where those intrigue's inevitably play themselves out. Karl Edward Wagner's complex and compelling character of Kane redefines the boundaries of heroic fantasy, and stands besides Michael Moorcock's Elric, and Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and Gray Mouser as one of the most idiosyncratic and compelling characters of the fantasy genre. Gods in Darkness gathers together in one volume the complete novels of Kane.

Kane Book Review:

Are you ready for Kane Bellan’s story? I have a problem. Potential problem? I’m not really sure. Here’s the deal. There’s this girl—isn’t that how it always starts?—and her name is Mollie. I like her. I mean really like her. I hope that doesn’t make me seem less manly than my professional hockey player persona implies. But here’s the issue—she’s my best friend. The one person I can count on for everything, who’s been there with me for all the moments, big and small. When Mollie shows up at my door, travel weary and scared following an incident with an ex, my instinct to protect her goes into overdrive. It’s then that I know she’s more than just my best friend and the skates are swept out from under me when I find out she feels the same way. Our transition from friends to lovers to potentially something more is seamless, the Arizona Vengeance is back on the ice looking for a repeat championship, and my life has never been better. Just when I think I’ve got it all figured out, the realities of us both having careers which keep us on the road put our blossoming relationship on ice. It feels like the game just went into overtime and I’m on the verge of either the biggest win or most disappointing loss of my life. And losing is never an option.

Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies – 3rd Edition Book Review:

The original edition of Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies, published by RMB in 1991, started a scrambling craze in the Canadian Rockies. No longer was reaching the top of those breathtaking peaks limited only to technical climbers; strong hikers with a sense of adventure found that they too could reach the top of many famous and stunning peaks. Armed with first-hand information, Alan Kane describes over 170 scrambles in a clear, concise format. This includes equipment needed, when to go, how to get there, where to park and what to expect as you work your way to the summit. Photos showing the ascent line complement descriptions that include historical trivia, origins of placenames and summit views. Routes range from off-trail hiking suitable for strong hikers to challenging routes at the low end of technical climbing where use of specific handholds is required on steep, airy terrain. Most ascents are day trips from a major road; many utilize a hiking trail on approach and include some of the most-photographed Rockies postcard peaks. The scramble areas begin in Waterton Park near the US border and continue north through Crowsnest, Kananaskis, Canmore and into the contiguous mountain parks of Banff, Yoho, Kootenay and Jasper. An overview of facilities, accommodation and climate is provided for each area. Specific hazards from rock quality to wildlife encounters are mentioned, including advice on scrambling safely. Guidebooks can be dry reading, but Kane’s snippets of humor make the book entertaining as well as useful.

Aleron Book Review:

When Aleron accepts the gift of immortality from queen vampire Mynea, a blasphemy is born—to mankind and vampires alike. Having gone against the ancient creed forbidding the creation of male vampires, Mynea must hide Aleron for centuries, concealing him from the reigning vampire, Vlad, and his clan. As Aleron adapts to his unusual limitations, astonishing new abilities, and an insatiable lust for blood—the sweetest nectar of all—he and Mynea bring others into their fold, creating a coven. But when Mynea suddenly disappears, Aleron's blissful ever after begins to crumble. In his search for Mynea, he begins to piece together his own vampiric origins through the blood memories of others—and both trails lead to Vlad. Suddenly, Aleron's own immortality is threatened.

Mayor Kane Book Review:

The surprising story of how wrestling superstar Glenn "Kane" Jacobs beat all the odds to become the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. Even in his heyday in wrestling, Jacobs was inspired to pursue politics by popular libertarian figures such as former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, Republican Senator Rand Paul, Fox News' Judge Andrew Napolitano and others, and that led him to fulfill his own political ambitions. Before becoming Mayor Kane, Glenn "Kane" Jacobs was one of WWE's top Superstars for over two decades and traveled the globe with the likes of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, John Cena, Ric Flair, and many others. He dominated the WWE with The Undertaker as the "Brothers of Destruction." Kane reinvented himself with the help of Daniel Bryan forming "Team Hell No." He set "Good ol' JR," Jim Ross on fire. The wrestler-turned-politician hasn't hung up his wrestling boots yet. Politics is a contact sport and Jacobs is using his wrestling skills in that arena. Jacobs supports President Trump and his agenda, and is implementing conservative policies in Tennessee.

Oconomowoc Book Review:

Oconomowoc--"the Newport of the West"--was a summer home and tourist destination for Milwaukee, Chicago, and St. Louis families of prominence from the 1870s through the 1930s. Names like Pabst, Miller, Armour, and Ward built sprawling mansions along the shores of Lac La Belle. They arrived by train every summer to Oconomowoc's stone railroad depot, a popular restaurant today, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. According to local lore, there were 97 millionaires living in the Oconomowoc area during this era of opulence. The lavish living began to wane in the 1930s and drew to a close as a result of World War II, after which Oconomowoc was transformed into a hub of commerce and industry.
