Rick Santorum is a conservative committed to restoring the American dream for hardworking Americans. The runner-up for the Republican nomination for president in 2012 is running again and building grass-roots support. In this collection of columns from 2013, the former senator from Pennsylvania explains in his own words what he stands for and what his vision for America's future is. In 2012, Rick launched Patriot Voices, a community of Americans committed to promoting faith, family, freedom and opportunity. And he has taken that message to the campaign trail, where he is a voice for the voiceless. A fierce defender of the unborn, Rick believes that strong families help produce a strong economy. He believes that renewing our country’s manufacturing spirit would strengthen working families and help our struggling communities return to a path of prosperity during these tough economic times. "We must not be the party of plutocrats, country clubbers and corporate interests," Rick writes. "We must focus on ways to deliver our vision for hope and opportunity for working Americans."

The Patriot class, often referred to as 'Baby Scots', were an immediate success displaying consistently good performance. The class was withdrawn over a two year period between 1960 and 1962 having all covered around 1.3 million miles each, unfortunately too early to be considered for preservation. The last two withdrawn were in good condition on withdrawal, but unfortunately all were scrapped.Although no Patriot in either rebuilt or unrebuilt forms survived into preservation a new 'Patriot' is under construction at the Llangollen Railway. The LMS-Patriot Project, a registered charity, is appealing for donations or regular contributions to build the new, 3 cylinder, Fowler designed, parallel boiler, 4-6-0 express passenger loco.Although mostly new, the group will use the leading wheel sets from two LMS 8F locomotives. An unrestored surviving LMS Fowler tender from Woodham Brothers Barry scrap yard will also be used for the project. The new build Patriot is being assembled at the Llangollen Railway Works, and will carry the number of the last built - LMS number 5551 or British Railways number 45551. After a public poll, the new Patriot locomotive will be named The Unknown Warrior, whose tomb is located in Westminster Abbey. The new Royal British Legion backed engine will be launched in late 2011 or early 2012 and this is the only 'official' book of the project. Containing hundreds of new, never before published photographs, British Steam - Patriot will tell the story of the engine from its original concept, follow its production throughout the building period and also its launch. The book will be endorsed by the Royal British Legion and promoted to all its members. This will be a must for all railway enthusiasts.

A surprising look at the roles of African Americans in the Revolutionary War: “An elegant and passionate writer, Alan Gilbert pulls no punches.”—Historian We think of the American Revolution as the war for independence from British colonial rule. But, of course, that independence actually applied to only a portion of the American population—African Americans would still be bound in slavery for nearly another century. Drawing on first-person accounts and primary sources, Alan Gilbert asks us to rethink what we know about the Revolutionary War, to realize that while white Americans were fighting for their freedom, many black Americans were joining the British imperial forces to gain theirs. Further, a movement led by sailors—both black and white—pushed strongly for emancipation on the American side. There were actually two wars being waged at once: a political revolution for independence from Britain, and a social revolution for emancipation and equality—planting the seeds for future freedom. “The personal stories of those who fought on the patriots’ side in an all-black regiment and on the loyalist side in exchange for a promise of freedom are fascinating and informative.”—Booklist

As the winter cold settles over Upper and Lower Canada, sparks still fly between the provinces. But while the fate of the colony is debated in the British parliament, a more pressing danger threatens the fledgling state: American militia is raiding across the border, intent on annexing the Canadian provinces by any means necessary. Following a battle along the border, a high-ranking American officer is wounded and captured. Brought back to Toronto, he is scheduled to be tried and executed in order to send a message to the encroaching Americans. The American colonel has a penchant for showmanship, and trouble always follows closely in his wake. But the American colonel’s boasts of escape and revenge are cut short when he is poisoned in his cell. All fingers point to Billy McNair, a young Canadian militia officer and the same man who saved the American colonel from dying from his wounds on the battlefield. Into this turmoil steps Marc Edwards, a decorated army officer who has traded his military uniform for a lawyer’s robes. Marc is convinced that the accused is innocent, and so, with the aid of Constable Cobb, he sets forth to track down the killer. But the investigation is nowhere near straightforward. Spies are everywhere, spreading lies and half-truths, and everyone has an agenda, some personal and some political. With time running out and the ever-present threat of attack from a foreign army looming, Marc must rely on his every skill to secure a future not only for his friend, but for his entire country.

I'm a soldier.A cattle rancher.A Hayden. My family's legacy is spread out in front of me, just waiting for me to seize it. If it weren't for one outdated rule, I'd be the owner of the Hayden Cattle Company and my aging father could retire. When Dakota Wright shows up to buy and develop twenty acres of Hayden land, I see more than a pretty mouth and strawberry blonde hair. I see a way around the decree keeping me from getting what I want. And, as luck would have it, Dakota has a big problem of her own. We strike two deals: one for the land, and a second that'll make both our problems a distant memory. It isn't too long before I realize I'm in over my head. I've convinced myself the ends should justify the means, but everything begins to fall apart when my birthright is no longer all that I'm after.I never thought there'd be anything I could love more than my ranch and my country. I was wrong.Turns out, I want it all.Including her.

Over the course of a generation, patriotism in America has been hijacked by the right and abandoned by the left. But the principles and values of true patriotism – country above self, contribution above consumption, stewardship over exploitation, freedom with responsibility, purpose through sacrifice and service, pragmatism, a fair shot for all – are inherently progressive. The True Patriot, written in the pamphleteering style of Thomas Paine (Common Sense), challenges progressives to reclaim patriotism – and spells out just how to do it. This powerful and timely "little red book" combines a manifesto, a ten-principle plan, a model speech, and a moral code. Throughout, it weaves between the words of the authors and excerpts from foundational American texts and speeches, as well as a parade of iconic American images.

In pursuit of her dream to view grizzly bears in the wild, the daughter of the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court is escorted into a remote area of northwest Yellowstone National Park by Beth Richardson, Associate Superintendent of Yellowstone. When the unexpected happens, former university president Parker Williams, owner of the Gold Medal Fly-Fishing Shop in West Yellowstone, Montana, is reluctantly drawn into a search and rescue mission which increasingly seems hopeless. Meanwhile, a pending vote by the nine justices of the United States Supreme Court on a controversial issue of national and historic proportions is playing out in Washington, D.C. Influenced by happenings in Yellowstone and orchestrated by a secretive organization headquartered in Idaho bent on changing the direction of the country, the vote of one justice means life or death unless Parker and Beth Richardson can accomplish the seemingly impossible. The involvement of an investigative reporter for The Washington Post and the participation of the FBI bring an unexpected twist to their mission. A Watery Grave in Yellowstone is the fourth novel in the Yellowstone Mystery Series. All are set against the backdrop of the wonder and splendor of Yellowstone National Park, our nation’s premiere national park. As with the previous three novels, all royalties and proceeds for the sale of A Watery Grave in Yellowstone are shared equally between two national charitable organizations: Habitat for Humanity and Compassion International. No royalties are retained by the author. Readers wishing to learn more about these charities are referred to their respective websites.
