Graph Databases for Safety Book Review:

Graph Databases for Safety: Democratization of Data-Analysis for Safety Experts bridges the gap between computer science and safety science. It introduces a data-platform and safety analysis techniques in the safety science domain. The data platform is based on graph databases, a relatively new form of scalable NoSQL database that can be scaled for huge datasets. The author has developed use cases for the safety domain: automated text analysis for accident reports; remote conditioning monitoring and populating bow-ties with real-life data and databases. He explains how that works exactly so that you may get started in big data for safety. The use cases are still relatively simple: automated text analysis for accident reports; remote conditioning monitoring and populating bow-ties with real-life data and databases. This book opens up an immense potential for further research as virtually any safety-related data can be stored in graph-databases and research questions can be transformed into computer queries for that data in a relatively straightforward manner. Offers a generic and consistent big-data approach to safety paving the way for the digital transformation of safety science and safety management Focus on the practical development of big-data techniques for safety Provides simple and straightforward methods enabling any safety researcher working with big data

Recent Advances in Computational Optimization Book Review:

This book presents recent advances in computational optimization. Our everyday life is unthinkable without optimization. We try to minimize our effort and to maximize the achieved profit. Many real-world and industrial problems arising in engineering, economics, medicine and other domains can be formulated as optimization tasks. The book is a comprehensive collection of extended contributions from the Workshops on Computational Optimization 2020. The book includes important real problems like modeling of physical processes, workforce planning, parameter settings for controlling different processes, transportation problems, wireless sensor networks, machine scheduling, air pollution modeling, solving multiple integrals and systems of differential equations which describe real processes, solving engineering problems. It shows how to develop algorithms for them based on new intelligent methods like evolutionary computations, ant colony optimization, constrain programming and others. This research demonstrates how some real-world problems arising in engineering, economics and other domains can be formulated as optimization problems.

Incomplete Data and Data Dependencies in Relational Databases Book Review:

The chase has long been used as a central tool to analyze dependencies and their effect on queries. It has been applied to different relevant problems in database theory such as query optimization, query containment and equivalence, dependency implication, and database schema design. Recent years have seen a renewed interest in the chase as an important tool in several database applications, such as data exchange and integration, query answering in incomplete data, and many others. It is well known that the chase algorithm might be non-terminating and thus, in order for it to find practical applicability, it is crucial to identify cases where its termination is guaranteed. Another important aspect to consider when dealing with the chase is that it can introduce null values into the database, thereby leading to incomplete data. Thus, in several scenarios where the chase is used the problem of dealing with data dependencies and incomplete data arises. This book discusses fundamental issues concerning data dependencies and incomplete data with a particular focus on the chase and its applications in different database areas. We report recent results about the crucial issue of identifying conditions that guarantee the chase termination. Different database applications where the chase is a central tool are discussed with particular attention devoted to query answering in the presence of data dependencies and database schema design.Table of Contents: Introduction / Relational Databases / Incomplete Databases / The Chase Algorithm / Chase Termination / Data Dependencies and Normal Forms / Universal Repairs / Chase and Database Applications
