Draw the Dark Book Review:

There are things the people of Winter, Wisconsin, would rather forget. The year the Nazis came to town, for one. That fire, for another. But what they'd really like to forget is Christian Cage. Seventeen-year-old Christian's parents disappeared when he was a little boy. Ever since, he's drawn obsessively: his mother's face...her eyes...and what he calls "the sideways place," where he says his parents are trapped. Christian figures if he can just see through his mother's eyes, maybe he can get there somehow and save them. But Christian also draws other things. Ugly things. Evil things. Dark things. Things like other people's fears and nightmares. Their pasts. Their destiny. There's one more thing the people of Winter would like to forget: murder. But Winter won’t be able to forget the truth, no matter how hard it tries. Not as long as Christian draws the dark...

Draw One in the Dark, Second Edition Book Review:

Now with a new Afterword by Sarah A. Hoyt Every one of us has the beast inside. But for Kyrie Smith, the beast is no metaphor. Since she was 15, when she first shape-shifted into a savage, black panther, Kyrie has questioned her humanity and moved from town to town, searching for a way to feel human again. Kyrie's lonely life changes forever while waitressing at a cheap diner. Investigating screams from the parking lot, Kyrie stumbles upon a blood-spattered dragon crouching over a mangled human corpse. The dragon changes back into her co-worker, Tom, naked, dazed and unable to remember how he got there. Thrust into a world of shape-shifting dragons, giant cats and other beasts waging a secret war behind humanity's back, Kyrie may find the answers she seeks¾with help from Tom, a mythical object called the Pearl of Heaven, and her own inner beast. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (DRM Rights Management). "DRAW ONE IN THE DARK IS THE ONE NEW FANTASY NOVEL YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS YEAR!"-Dave Freer "Analytically, it's a tour de force: logical, built from assumptions, with no contradictions, which is astonishing given the subject matter. It's also gripping enough that I finished it in one day."¾Jerry Pournelle ". . . deftly woven together . . . an interesting and strong story."¾ SFRevu.com

How to Draw Grimm's Dark Tales, Fables & Folklore Book Review:

Dark fairy tales and legends have been passed down orally from generation to generation for centuries. Today, these tales have penetrated every aspect of pop culture and media--from cinema and TV shows to books and theatre. While fairy tales have often been sanitized and tweaked for children, their true origins are dark, edgy, grisly, and often full of malevolence. How to Draw Grimm's Dark Tales, Fables & Folklore guides artists through the process of drawing, painting, and digitally illustrating the dark and mysterious characters of legend and lore--good and bad. Beginning with information on the necessary tools and materials, artists will learn basic drawing concepts and techniques for achieving proper proportion and perspective, shading, creating volume, and rendering such textures as skin, hair, fur, and fabric. A variety of step-by-step projects provide clear, easy-to-understand instructions for drawing well-recognized characters, including the Big Bad Wolf, a wily Rumpelstiltskin, a gothic Snow White, a sinister witch, and many more. Along the way, art tips and techniques provide insight and inspiration to enhance the learning process. Throughout the book, informative sidebars and introductions reveal the history of each character, as well as the origin of their grim tales, symbolism, and variations in their stories. How to Draw Grimm's Dark Tales, Fables & Folklore is full of creative resources and encouragement for beginning and intermediate artists alike. With its varied cast of characters, comprehensive instruction, and fascinating peek into the tales themselves, this book is sure to kindle artistic imagination.

Plowing the Dark Book Review:

A dazzling new novel by the author of Galatea 2.2 and Gain In a digital laboratory on the shores of Puget Sound, a band of virtual-reality researchers races to complete the Cavern, an empty white room that can become a jungle, a painting, or a vast Byzantine cathedral. In a war-torn Mediterranean city, an American is held hostage, chained to a radiator in another empty white room. What can possibly join these two remote places? Only the shared imagination, a room that these people unwittingly build in common, where they are all about to meet. Adie Klarpol, a skilled but disillusioned artist, comes back to life, revived by the thrill of working with cutting-edge technology. Against the collapse of Cold War empires and the fall of the Berlin Wall, she retreats dangerously into the cyber-realities she has been hired to create. On the other side of the globe, Taimur Martin, an English teacher recovering from a failed love affair, is picked up off the streets in Beirut by Islamic fundamentalists and held in solitary captivity. A mesmerizing fiction that explores the imagination's power to both destroy and save, Plowing the Dark recasts the rules of the novel and stands as Richard Powers's most daring work to date.

Learn How to Draw Landscapes with Colored Pencils for the Beginner Book Review:

Learn How to Draw Landscapes with Colored Pencils for the Beginner Table of Contents Introduction Mixing the colors Drawing the shadows Proportionality Sunset in Africa - drawing tutorial Black parts Mountain and house - Drawing Tutorial Sketch Sunset - drawing tutorial Forest - Drawing Tutorial In the forest - Drawing Tutorial Boats on the beach - Drawing Tutorial Author Bio: Introduction: Drawing with colored pencil is super easy if you use the right colors and have drawn a good sketch. Unlike the graphite pencils, colored pencils cannot be easily erased, so we have to draw carefully, particularly the darker areas. Always draw parts with colored pencil pressing down lightly and if it looks good, color over the same area pressing down hard. Buy a good brand of colored pencils and smooth paper. If you don't have a lot of red pencils, you can get more variations with only one pencil, by controlling how hard you press when you draw. In the image below I've drawn with one red pencil three nuances. In the first example I pressed hard, in the second I pressed normally and in the third example I pressed lightly. Even more variations of color can be created this way: This is just an example of what is inside the book.
