Seeley s Principles of Anatomy Physiology Book Review:

Principles of Anatomy and Physiology is designed to help students develop a basic understanding of the concepts of anatomy and physiology without overwhelming them with chatty anecdotes or in-depth coverage that may be too detailed for their needs. The Tate text features realistic and beautifully rendered figures, clear, straight-forward writing, and an emphasis on clinical material. So how is this new textbook different? Explanations have just the right amount of detail, and therefore are shorter, with usually only one example instead of two or three; there are less boxed readings; other texts use several complex figures to illustrate many concepts—Tate uses less, but more efficient, art. The result is a shorter, simplified textbook that covers all of the major points found in more lengthy texts, but is easier to read and more economical in price.

Seeley s Anatomy Physiology Book Review:

This text is written for the two semester anatomy & physiology course. The writing is comprehensive continues its efficacy as being enough to provide the depth necessary for those courses not requiring prerequisites, and yet, is presented with such clarity that it nicely balances the thorough coverage. Clear descriptions and exceptional illustrations combine to help students develop a firm understanding of the concepts of anatomy and physiology and to teach them how to use that information. Great care has been taken to select important concepts and to perfectly describe the anatomy of cells, organs, and organ systems. The plan that has been followed for ten editions of this popular text is to combine clear and accurate descriptions of anatomy with precise explanations of how structures function and examples of how they work together to maintain life. To emphasize the concepts of anatomy and physiology, the authors provide explanations of how the systems respond to aging, changes in physical activity, and disease, with a special focus on homeostasis and the regulatory mechanisms that maintain it. This text has more clinical content than any other A & P book on the market. Users who purchase Connect Plus receive access to the full online ebook version of the textbook.

Anatomy and Physiology Book Review:

Anatomy and Physiology 6th edition was designed to help students develop a solid, basic understanding of anatomy and physiology without an encyclopedic presentation of detail. Great care has been taken to select important concepts and to carefully describe the anatomy of cells, organs, and organ systems. The basic recipe that has been followed for six editions of this text is to combine clear and accurate descriptions of anatomy with precise explanations of how structures function and examples of how they work together to maintain life. To emphasize the concepts of anatomy and physiology, the authors provide explanations of how the systems respond to aging, changes in physical activity, and disease, with a special focus on homeostasis and the regulatory mechanisms that maintain it. Timely and interesting examples demonstrate the application of knowledge in a clinical context.

Obesity Inflammation and Cancer Book Review:

In addition to its metabolic and endocrinologic effects, obesity and adipose tissue have now been shown to be associated with low grade inflammation resulting in cellular and humoral inflammatory factors of which the latter may act by endocrine, paracrine and autocrine mechanisms. These inflammatory mediators have increasingly been suggested as contributing to the obesity link to carcinogenesis and cancer promotion. This volume of Energy Balance and Cancer will focus on recent developments and cutting edge research pointing to inflammation and inflammatory factors as key mediators of this linkage. The volume first provides information on inflammation as an important link between obesity and insulin resistance, which is in itself linked to promotion of cancer through hyperinsulinemia. The volume then covers some of the most important mechanisms by which obesity leads to inflammation, including the novel inflammasome concept, alterations in chromatin structure, circulating inflammatory factors, unique cellular interactions between adipocytes and macrophages and the direct link of dietary fat to inflammation and cancer. Overall, this volume will provide important insight to help understand how inflammation may help modulate the linkage between obesity and cancer and serve as a platform for developing future research in this area.

Examination Questions and Answers in Basic Anatomy and Physiology Book Review:

This book provides two thousand multiple choice questions on human anatomy and physiology, separated into 40 categories. The answer to each question is accompanied by an explanation. Each category has an introduction to set the scene for the questions to come. However not all possible information is provided within these Introductions, so an Anatomy and Physiology textbook is an indispensable aid to understanding the answers. The questions have been used in examinations for undergraduate introductory courses and as such reflect the focus of these particular courses and are pitched at the level to challenge students that are beginning their training in anatomy and physiology. The questions and answer combinations are to be used both by teachers, to select questions for their next examinations, and by students, when studying for an upcoming test. Students enrolled in the courses for which these questions were written include nursing, midwifery, paramedic, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition & dietetics, health sciences and students taking an anatomy and physiology course as an elective.

Heat Shock Factor Book Review:

This book presents a large amount of information related to the heat shock response and heat shock factor (HSF), describes core observations about molecular mechanisms and pathophysiological roles, and provides fundamental concepts on the basis of information from diverse aspects. This adaptive response to high temperature or protein misfolding is a fundamental mechanism to maintain the capacity of protein homeostasis, or proteostasis, and is evolutionally conserved among all living organisms, including bacteria and humans, on the earth. Furthermore, physiological and pathological roles of HSF have been extensively studied in fruit fly, worm, and mouse models. It has been revealed that HSF plays roles in development of the brain, reproductive and sensory organs, and in ageing, inflammation, and circadian rhythm. Analysis of the mechanisms have uncovered that HSF exerts a wide range of effects on gene expression and epigenetic status on the whole genome. Moreover, loss or gain of HSF function is also closely related to protein-misfolding diseases including neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric diseases, heart diseases, and cancers. Therefore, HSF is now thought to be a promising therapeutic target for treatment of these refractory diseases. For undergraduate students, this is a highly understandable source of information on heart shock response and HSF, covering the basis of HSF biology, the physiological role of HSF, and disease associated with HSF function. This book not only serves as a guide to the heat shock response and HSF for students and young researchers in other fields, but also is a cornerstone for future work in the field related to the heat shock response and HSF.
