Just One Look Book Review:

"As I stepped off the elevator on the second floor, I found myself silently begging for a calamity. A fire, a flash flood, even a tiny earthquake would suffice. Anything that would give me a legitimate reason to evacuate the area immediately. Or, better yet, I wouldn't make it out in time and the somber voice of Brian Williams would detail my demise on the nightly news. "Cassie Woodson entered the Midtown office building on the first day of her new job mere seconds before the entire skyscraper was reduced to rubble by the powerful explosion.""--

The Look Alike Book Review:

The Look-Alike By: Joseph A. Levy Michael Biton is a young, ambitious law student. He has completed his first year at Brooklyn Law School, and everything is going perfectly for him as he is doing an internship with the City of New York. Suddenly out of nowhere, he gets identified, arrested and subsequently indicted for a rape that he insists he did not commit. His future, which had been unlimited, now becomes uncertain as he must pay a lot of money to a high-profile criminal defense lawyer, while at the same time deal with an arrogant, overzealous prosecutor who is determined to convict him at any cost. As he awaits trial, he starts to find out that there are many weird aspects to the case and that it is raising a lot of questions for which there are no answers. He also finds out that there is a person who looks exactly like him who attends the same law school and who worked in the same building as he. The Look-Alike is more than just a legal thriller. It is an intense, personal drama about Michael Biton getting a legal education – an education far different from the casebook law that he has been getting in law school. It is a book that will leave you guessing to the very end.

Alice s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass Illustrated by Milo Winter Book Review:

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' is the best known work of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 - 1898) – better known by his pen name, 'Lewis Carroll'. Telling the tale of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by surreal and anthropomorphic creatures, the book was a huge commercial success on its initial publication in 1865. It was followed by its sequel, 'Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There', in 1871. The books play at the heart of logical problems and literary nonsense – giving the narrative lasting popularity with adults and children alike. The story is accompanied by a series of dazzling, full-colour, Milo Winter illustrations. Winter (1888 - 1956), is best-loved for his animal drawings, and was among the artists working in the later stages of the 'Golden Age'. His work can be identified from its masterful accuracy, humorous touches, personality, and attention to detail. Winter produced artwork for such well-known tales as Aesop's Fables, Arabian Nights, Alice in Wonderland, and Gulliver's Tales. Presented alongside the text, his illustrations further refine and elucidate Lewis Carroll's captivating storytelling. This book, 'Alice in Wonderland - with Milo Winter illustrations' forms part of our 'Pook Press' imprint, celebrating the golden age of illustration in children's literature.

"[For] readers of Nina LaCour . . . Sharply incisive [and] deeply romantic." --Booklist "Part coming-of-age story, part slow-burn romance, part feminist-manifesto." --SLJ "[One of] the LGBTQ books that will change the literary landscape." --O Magazine What Lulu Shapiro's 5,000 Flash followers don't know: • The video of her with another girl was never supposed to go public. • Owen definitely wasn't supposed to break up with her because of it. • Behind the online persona Lulu painstakingly curates, her life feels like a terrible, uncertain mess. Then Lulu meets Cass. Cass isn't interested in looking at Lulu's life, only in living in it for real. And The Hotel--a gorgeous space with an intriguing, Old Hollywood history--seems like the perfect hideaway for their deepening romance. But just because Lulu has stepped out of the spotlight doesn't mean it'll stop following her every move. Look is about what you present vs. who you really are, about real and manufactured intimacy and the blurring of that line. Although I wrote this book from a believer’s viewpoint, I tried to be as objective as possible. Above all, I am a seeker of truth. Not truth from a worldview, or truth according to the individual. I believe there is a higher truth, an absolute truth. And I believe truth is found only in the Bible and in the person of Jesus.

If You Lean In Will Men Just Look Down Your Blouse Book Review:

Gina Barreca is fed up with women who lean in, but don't open their mouths. In her latest collection of essays, she turns her attention to subjects like bondage which she notes now seems to come in fifty shades of grey and has been renamed Spanx. She muses on those lessons learned in Kindergarten that every woman must unlearn like not having to hold the hand of the person you're waking next to (especially if he's a bad boyfriend) or needing to have milk, cookies and a nap every day at 3:00 PM (which tends to sap one's energy not to mention what it does to one's waistline). She sounds off about all those things a woman hates to hear from a man like "Calm down" or "Next time, try buying shoes that fit". "'If You Lean In, Will Men Just Look Down Your Blouse?'" is about getting loud, getting love, getting ahead and getting the first draw (or the last shot). Here are tips, lessons and bold confessions about bad boyfriends at any age, about friends we love and ones we can't stand anymore, about waist size and wasted time, about panic, placebos, placentas and certain kinds of not-so adorable paternalism attached to certain kinds of politicians. The world is kept lively by loud women talking and "'If You Lean In, Will Men Just Look Down Your Blouse?'" cheers and challenges those voices to come together and speak up. You think she's kidding? Oh, boy, do you have another thing coming.

Law Liberty A Biblical Look at Legalism Book Review:

The authors in this compilation address the issue of legalism from a variety of angles. John MacArthur shows, first that obedience to God is not an issue of legalism, but an issue of love. In his second chapter, he deals with the inevitable response of people who are confronted with Biblical standards, "Judge not that ye be not judged." Here MacArthur shows what our Lord meant when He said that, and shows what biblical discernment really is, that there is a vast difference between judgmental and holding people accountable to God's standards. Phil Johnson, in his first chapter, deals with Christian liberty. In his second chapter, he takes a critical look at two kinds of legalism, then explores the relationship of Christian love and Christian liberty. Joel Beeke shows that enthusiasm for God's law is not necessarily legalism. One can be zealous without being legalistic. As David wrote: "Oh, how I love Thy Law!" Bruce Bickel explains that legalism is due to a weak understanding of what Christ accomplished on the cross. Jim Elliff makes clear that legalism is an attack on unity within the Body of Christ, particularly local congregations. Ken Talbot helps us to see that legalism is inconsistent with and incompatible with the doctrine of justification by faith alone. He points out that the doctrine of "free will" leads to this dangerous position. Rick Phillips explores the relationship to loving God and obeying His law. Some today believe that love is all that matters, and that the law as a guideline to love is extinct. Then this author shows that Biblical sanctification is the antidote to and the opposite of legalism. Steven J. Lawson shows that legalism is the result of holding to man-made traditions over the truth of God's Word. Second, he points out how dangerous and deadly a thing legalism is and why. Table of Contents: 1. Introduction: What Legalism Is, What Legalism Does - Don Kistler 2. Truth Vs. Tradition - Stephen J. Lawson 3. Love and God's Law - Richard D. Philips 4. The Cross Is Enough - Bruce Bickel 5. The Danger of Legalism - Steven J. Lawson 6. Obedience: Love or Legalism? - John MacArthur 7. Zealous But not Legalistic - Joel Beeke 8. The Plague of Free-Will Moralism - Kenneth Talbot 9. Judging Vs. Biblical Discernment - John MacArthur 10. Stand Fast in Liberty - Phil Johnson 11. Real Love and Real Liberty - Phil Johnson 12. What Freedom From the Law Accomplishes For the Local Church - Jim Elliff 13. Biblical Sanctification: The Antidote to Legalism - Richard D. Philips

Look Wot I Dun Don Powell of Slade Book Review:

Look What I Dun is the story of Slade told through the eyes of drummer Don Powell whose life was shattered when, in 1973 at the height of the group s fame, he was involved in a horrific car crash. Unflinching in his honesty, Powell deals frankly with the aftermath of the accident that took the life of his girlfriend and left him with injuries that affect him to this day. Leaders of the glam rock movement, Slade were the UK s biggest singles band in the years 1971-74. Their many hits have become rock n roll standards, not least Merry Christmas Everybody , arguably Britain s all-time favourite Christmas song. For Don Powell, though, success came at a price. Lucky to survive, the aftermath of his accident included alcoholism, financial woes and a life of reckless promiscuity. Now sober and settled in Denmark with an adopted family of his own, Don Powell s story as told to Lise Lyng Falkenberg is a no-nonsense journey to the heights and depths of the rock world.
