In the conclusion to the trilogy beginning with "Sea Swept", Philip Quinn's bond to his adopted brother, Seth, is threatened by a young woman with a troubling secret
Struggling to single-handedly raise her orphaned godson until a guardian was found, Annie Simmons was beginning to question God's plans for her life. Russell Mitchard's sudden appearance on her doorstep only added to her confusion. Especially when the stranger claimed that his grandfather's will dictated that he marry Annie! As Russell saw it, Annie ought to accept his proposal. After all, without a husband, she wouldn't stand a chance of gaining custody of the godson she obviously loved. But once she relented, Russell suddenly wasn't sure about anything. Especially not being a family man. Could Annie's strong faith help Russell dispel his doubts...and embrace the rich future God had planned for all of them?

A combination of numerical models was used to test alternatives for shoaling prevention in Corpus Christi Harbor, Texas. The vertically averaged model system, TABS-2, was used to simulate contributions of sediments by bay waters to the sediment load. The laterally averaged estuarine model, LAEMSED, was used to simulate density currents in the channel and sedimentation that occurs at the harbor entrance. Applications of the models testing advance maintenance, removal of industrial discharges and withdrawals, advance maintenance in conjunction with a sill, and movement of the disposal areas showed a 20 percent decrease in shoaling as a result of industrial activity removal, a 75 percent decrease in sediments entering the bay channel due to disposal area relocation, and practically no effect on shoaling rates resulting from advance maintenance. Appendix A presents the results of a reconnaissance survey on shoaling conditions in Corpus Christi Harbor. Appendix B describes the TABS-2 numerical modeling system, and Appendix C describes the theoretical aspects of LAEMSED.

Readers of Holden's splendid new book will be rewarded by his summary of the latest battle: neo-formalists versus post-(post?)-modernists versus creative writing programs versus whatever. The decline of modernism is also examined. Holden rightly chastises those who decry the institutionalization of poetry; details the current state of lyric, narrative, and political poetry; and gives sensitive, intelligent readings of works by new and established poets. An important book by a solid poet and critic. Highly recommended. --Vincent D. Balitas.
