Defender of the Faith offers a reinterpretation of William Jennings Bryan in his last years as an unchanging Progressive whose roots were deeply embedded in agrarian populism. It changes the standard picture of Bryan in his final years as that of a crusader for social and economic reform sadly transformed into a reactionary champion of anachronistic rural evangelism, cheap moralistic panaceas, and Florida real estate. He pleaded for for progressive labor laws, liberal taxes, government aid to farmers, public ownership of railroads, telegraphs, and telephones, federal development of water resources, minimum wages for labor, and other advanced causes.

Nothing ever goes Raymond Scott’s way, and it seems that everything that can go wrong with him does. But he must go on—even though anger often consumes him with such ferocity that he fears a beast is emerging. Raymond must be his own defender. With the help of his court-ordered sessions with psychiatrist Dr. Swatlosky, Raymond attempts to dissect all the reasons why he loses control on so many occasions—including the most recent incident, in which he assaulted a police officer who pulled him over. Raymond’s biggest fear is that he will be committed, so he carefully screens everything he admits to his psychiatrist. But the beast that lives within him is telling him something else—to kill, mutilate, and destroy his adversaries. Now Raymond must decide if Dr. Swatlosky is a friend or foe and whether the drugs prescribed for him are causing more harm than good. Raymond knows the whole world is watching his every move—listening, judging, and mocking him. But Raymond has no idea he is about to receive the shock of a lifetime. And no one is left to protect him, but him. BOOK TRAILER VIDEOS http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7740505/349236%20trailer.zip> http://youtube.com/watch?v=-nYa37hB_4s>

A Critical Analysis of the Public Defender s Office in Duchesne County Utah Based on the 2007 2008 Case Studies of Mr Christopher Yvellez

This book is composed of two case studies. Each case study evaluates the performance of the attorney serving as the public defender in Duchesne County, Utah in 2007 and 2008. The case studies demonstrate that there are major flaws in the performance of the public defender with respect to very basic areas of expertise that would be expected of any competent public defender. A defendant should expect to have the public defender engage in (a) the effective cross examination of prosecution witnesses on relevant points ,as opposed to concentrating on completely irrelevant issues, (b) calling expert witnesses in order to impeach the veracity and credibility of prosecution witnesses, (c) placing the defendant on the stand so that his/her testimony would serve as a counterweight to the testimony of the prosecution witness(s), and (d) pointing out obvious false testimony made by prosecution witnesses, such as the claim made in case study one made by a certain prosecution witness that she was the mother of the defendant when her age was 37 and the defendants age was 34. It is mathematically impossible for this to be the case. Yet the Duchesne County prosecutor, a Mr. Charles, specifically refers to this person as being the mother of the defendant when examining a county sheriff, who likewise refers to this individual as the mother of the defendant. Such gross incompetence violates the constitutional rights of the defendant to adequate, competent representation.

But these monumental advances not only add a dangerously powerful third party to an already precarious diplomatic situation, but rouse pro- and anti=s[ace factions in atevi society to incendiary levels. To help negotiate these treacherous diplomatic waters, Tabini-aiji, the powerful head of the atevi's Western Association, has sent the only human he fully trusts into space: his own paidhi, Bren Cameron. However, the threat of possible invasion by hostile aliens who attacked Phoenix's station in a far-off sector of space hangs over them all. And when one of the senior captains of the Phoenix confesses that this station was not completely destroyed, as had been previously thought, the crew mutinies. How can Bren hope to mediate on a station overcome by a rebellious crew intent on taking the Phoenix on a rescue mission back into hostile alien territory? The long-running Foreigner series can also be enjoyed by more casual genre readers in sub-trilogy installments. Defender is the fifth Foreigner book and the the second book of the second sub-trilogy. ""Obsession with a celebrity - in my case with film director Clive Barker and his associates - is a common psychosis. He was my chimera, my phantom 'them' against whom I went into battle. The story becomes more accessible as the jargon unique to the conflict is introduced. I was stretched almost beyond return but the memoir is resolved with sheltered housing, effective medication, and tears of joy at the turn of 1999 into 2000. I was still alive, after many utter miracles of survival, and the book reaches closure during the first moments of an infant millennium. I have been well ever since."" - Richard M Clements "A brutally-honest diary account of one man's mental illness, this is a bit like the first part of Faulkner's 'The Sound and the Fury' coupled with 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime' and a very bizarre episode of the 'X-Files'. Richard describes his book as a cathartic memoir of his time suffering from schizophrenia, detailing his treatment from eight different hospitals as well as his disjointed grips with reality. It's not an easy book to read by its very nature, but does provide an incredible insight into the very private world of a schizophrenia sufferer. * * * * * " - By By Neil D'Arcy Jones, Colchester Evening Gazette DescriptionNot all schizophrenics are violent. This is a myth that the press would like us to believe, a myth undone by my Richard's example. This book is the culmination of a four-year project written; from the first-person 'unreliable narrator' perspective. It utilizes truth with facts that, however illusory, Richard could not voluntarily create himself. This book documents Richard's adventurous learning curves to psychiatric treatment on nine occasions in eight different hospitals for over twenty-nine months since 1990: as terrible as being locked in an I.C.U for over nine weeks, as exciting as being the saviour of alien planets, and as beautiful as being released from that same I.C.U to walk under trees that were the tallest things he had ever seen under a blue sky that stretched on forever. This is an inspirational and important book for schizophrenia sufferers. It is perhaps unique: a non-academic work that would appeal to academics, an exciting adventure for the sympathetic, and a case-study for mental health professionals to gain a long look into a private world. About the AuthorRichard M Clements is an inspirational author who has survived from acute schizophrenia and now wishes to use his experiences to help others with this disorder. He considers that discussing successful treatment in public is the responsibility for having recovered from illness to those that yet haven't. Richard has written several fictional novels and describes creative writing as the mainstay of his self-esteem, which is vital. Having a book published has been a life changing experience for Richard, of which he is very proud. For many service users it could be said that empowerment begins with pride, that pride is good. Richard would like to use his experience to counsel other sufferers of schizophrenia, particularly those also prescribed Closapine, a medication which has kept him out of hospital and happy for over six years.

The author seeks to have an office of the public defender established. He reasons that it is as much the function of the state to shield the innocent as to convict the guilty and that the presumption of innocence requires the state to defend as well as prosecute those accused of a crime.
